METRO BUS ADA & ACCESSIBILITY

The Metro Bus fleet is in full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and continues to seek ways to integrate new or enhance existing accessibility features.

SAFELY SERVING OUR COMMUNITIES

The Metro Bus core values of safety, integrity and service excellence ensure that we have effective safety, professional and service skills to provide the best public transportation service possible for our communities.
All Metro bus Operators have ADA law knowledge and are educated in customer service techniques focused on dignity and respect. All our buses are wheelchair accessible and Operators are trained in wheelchair securements as well as operating accessible bus features.

  • One Personal Care Attendant (PCA) can accompany an ADA-certified passenger at no charge with the proper ID. Please call 320.252.1010 to request an ID for your PCA.
  • Lifts or ramps are available on all Dial-a-Ride buses and forward doors of all Fixed Route buses.
  • Each Fixed Route bus has two spaces for passengers in wheelchairs. These spaces include chair securements and safety belts for passenger protection.
  • There is a mobility device charge station available at the Metro Bus Transit Center.
  • Audio and Braille equipped fare ticket vending machine is available at the Transit Center.
  • Metro Bus rack cards and other resources are provided in English, Somali and Spanish.
  • Live Chat tool available for Dial-a-Ride customers with speech or hearing impairments.
  • Step-by-step how to ride videos in English, Somali and Spanish.
Upon request Metro Bus will provide information needed to access its programs in ADA accessible formats and/or translated versions to requestors.

METRO BUS DIAL-A-RIDE

Metro Bus Dial-a-Ride is a shared-ride, paratransit service for individuals who are unable to use Fixed Routes. Dial-a-Ride is Door-through-Door, Operator-assisted service with a Curb-to-Curb option.
Riders must apply to determine when and under what circumstances the applicant can use Fixed Routes and when Dial-a-Ride is required. It’s easy to use Dial-a-Ride. Once certification is approved simply contact our Dispatchers to schedule your ride. Riders may travel within the Dial-a-Ride service area.

REDUCED FARES

Metro Bus offers a reduced fare during off-peak times for individuals with disabilities and seniors aged 65 and older with proof of qualification.

SERVICE ANIMALS

Service animals are trained to assist individuals with disabilities. Service animals are allowed on buses, shelters and facilities. Service animals must be harnessed, leashed or tethered unless the service animal’s work or the person’s disability prevents use of these devices. All other animals brought on board must be in an approved pet carrier.

FREE TRAVEL TRAINING

The Metro Bus Travel Training service is for anyone who wants to learn how to ride the Metro Bus system. Our Travel Trainers specialize in helping seniors, individuals with disabilities and people with limited English skills. Training is FREE and customized to fit your needs, whether general information, in-depth one-on-one, group or virtual sessions.
All trainings are available in English, Spanish and Somali. Other languages available upon request.
