NATURE OF WORK

Work involves the operation of a public transit bus in the transportation of persons according to a fixed route timetable. Must be able to handle stressful situations related to the managing of passengers and emergency situations.

  3. Operate a large transit vehicle in moderate to heavy traffic.

The Fueler is responsible for fueling, checking and filling fluids, and general cleaning and vehicle condition of all buses and staff vehicles.

  • Fuel CNG and Diesel buses using the tricorder per standard operating procedures

    • Inspect buses inside and outside for defects, perform non-technical repairs or report such defects per procedure
    • Perform daily basic interior bus cleaning including sweeping and/or washing floors; clean and dispose of biohazard spills following standard operating procedures
    • Wash exterior of bus following standard operating procedures
    • Responsible for installation and removal of interior and exterior postings and advertisements on buses
  • General Garage, Shop and/or Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance
    • Emptying trash, cleaning floors and trenches, and operating floor cleaning machines
    • Snow removal as needed around fueling stations and lanes
  • Perform bus switch outs as needed

  • This position is predominantly in a maintenance shop or outside environment requiring extended periods of walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling and reaching
  • Moderate exposure to temperature extremes, noise, physical and/or chemical hazards
  • Utilizes personal computers, 10-key, phone and other office equipment on a regular basis
  • May require limited travel outside of the maintenance shop.   Will primarily utilize Metro Bus vehicle for travel

Fixed-Route Operator Trainer

INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

A minimum of one year of Metro Bus service is required. Position will remain open until filled.

Salary: $2.00 an hour premium while performing training functions

Supervises: New hires (in-service training)

Schedule: Must be flexible to meet new hire training schedule

To qualify for this position you must have demonstrated a commitment to following work rules, policies and procedures and not have any preventable accidents within the last six months. A minimum of one year of Metro Bus service is required.  Training experience is preferred.

Primary Objective of Position

Operator Trainers provide new hire in-service training. To meet the increasing training needs of our operators, Operator Trainers will assist with candidate ride along, operator observations, classroom training and operator coaching.

Qualifications

Operator Trainers must be willing to:

  • train according to the policies and procedures of Metro Bus
  • portray Metro Bus in a positive manner to trainees and coworkers
  • make critical observations and communicate honestly in a supportive and encouraging manner
  • document training progress and provide written reports
  • work with all personality types and follow directions provided by the Training and Safety Department
  • work a variety of shifts outside of your normal shift, including evenings and weekends.
