Metro Bus operates all programs and services without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion or sexual orientation as provided by Title VI and related laws. If you believe you’ve been excluded from participation in or denied benefits of Metro Bus services for any of these reasons, you have a right to file a formal written complaint within 180 days following the alleged discriminatory action.

Title VI Complaint Review Process

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU FILE A TITLE VI COMPLAINT WITH METRO BUS

  • All complaints will be reviewed and investigated by the Title VI Manager.
  • The Title VI Manager will follow up with the Complainant.
  • The Title VI Manager will investigate the complaint, including:
    • Review of submission
    • Review or relevant video and/or audio
    • Follow-up conversations with Complainant and/or employee(s)

Complaint process

All complaints alleging discrimination based on race, color or national origin in a service or benefit provided by Metro Bus will be directly addressed by the Metro Bus Title VI Manager. The Title VI Manager shall also provide appropriate assistance to complainants, including those persons with disabilities or who are limited in their ability to communicate in English.

The Title VI Manager shall make every effort to address all complaints in an expeditious and thorough manner. In instances where additional information is needed for assessment or investigation of the complaint, the Title VI Manager will contact the complainant within 15 working days of receipt of the complaint. Please note that in responding to any requests for additional information, a complainant’s failure to provide the requested information by the date indicated by the Title VI Manager may result in the administrative closure of the complaint.

Once sufficient information for investigating the complaint is received, the Title VI Manager will complete the investigation based on the information available and make a determination on the disposition of the complaint. The Title VI Manager will make the Chief Executive Officer aware of each complaint received. The Title VI Manager will consult legal counsel at their discretion.

Notification of the outcome of complaint

If appropriate, the complaint may be administratively closed. In this case, the Metro Bus Title VI Manager will notify the complainant of the action as soon as possible. The Title VI Manager will send a final written response to the complainant and advise the complainant of his or her right to appeal to the Chief Executive Officer and/or Board Chair of Metro Bus within seven (7) calendar days of receipt of the final written decision from the Program Officer, and/or file a complaint externally with the U.S. Department of Transportation and/or the Federal Transit Administration.

The Title VI Manager will make every effort to respond to Title VI complaints within 60 working days of receipt of such complaints. In addition to the complaint process described above, a complainant may file a Title VI complaint with the following office:
